A Schottky barrier is the rectifying barrier formed where a metal contacts a lightly doped semiconductor, so no PN junction is involved at all. Electrolytic rectifiers and thermionic emission diodes are older and unrelated technologies, and a PIN structure is a different semiconductor arrangement.
