Which digital code allows only one bit to change between sequential code values?

In Gray code, consecutive values differ in exactly one bit position, so a reading taken while a value is changing can be wrong by at most one step instead of producing a wildly incorrect intermediate code. Ordinary binary can flip several bits at once, as in the transition from 0111 to 1000.
