The English stem diverges from the source editions, which ask who violated the stopping rules. Both marked distances satisfy the 5 m minimum measured from the edge of the intersecting carriageway — 10 m for the tipper and 5 m for the sedan — so the junction rule condemns neither driver. What separates them is the clearance rule: stopping is prohibited where less than 3 m remain between the stopped vehicle and a solid longitudinal marking other than the one bounding the carriageway. The tipper has left about 2.5 m between its body and the solid line that divides its half of the road, while the sedan keeps more than a full lane width from the double solid centre marking, so the breach belongs to the driver of the tipper alone.
