The rider's left arm is held horizontally out to the side, announcing a movement to the left: either a left turn or a turn to face the opposite direction. The arm remains extended until the manoeuvre begins. A right turn would be shown by the right arm held sideways or by the left arm held sideways and bent upward at the elbow, while continuing straight requires no arm signal.
