A point-contact diode's junction is a fine wire pressed against the semiconductor surface, so the junction area — and with it the capacitance and stored charge — is tiny and the device rectifies RF up to microwave frequencies. That same small junction cannot carry rectifier currents or block high voltage, and it regulates neither voltage nor current.
