A beta or hairpin match shunts an inductive stub across the feed point of a driven element deliberately made shorter than resonance, so the element has to be split at the center and insulated from the boom to give two separate terminals. Gamma, T-match and shunt-fed arrangements all work with a continuous element that can be bonded to the boom.
