If the emergency light signal is absent or defective during towing, the emergency-stop marker must be attached to the rear of the vehicle being towed. That position warns traffic approaching the back of the combination; placing it on the front towing vehicle or choosing an arbitrary visible location would not serve the prescribed warning point.
