The ovules sit enclosed within the ovary, the hollow chamber at the base of the female part, which shelters them until they have been fertilised. Naming the ovule as the container rather than as the contents reverses the relationship, and the sticky receiving surface at the top of the female part holds arriving pollen, never ovules.
