Which city was the capital of the Byzantine Empire?

توضیح

The eastern empire kept a single imperial seat, and its emperors, court, treasury and senior clergy were all based in that one city for almost all of its existence. The old imperial city in Italy tempts readers who remember where the empire began, because it had been the ancient capital, yet it lay outside the eastern empire and no longer housed an emperor at all.
