A warhorse was bred and trained for the charge and cost far more than an ordinary mount, and together with armour, weapons and a following of attendants it put knighthood beyond the reach of most people. The pack horse fails because a knight's baggage animal was an ordinary beast of burden, not the trained animal he fought from.
