Question 151

What is the benefit of using the opposite or “reverse” sideband when receiving CW?

  1. Interference from impulse noise will be eliminated
  2. More stations can be accommodated within a given signal passband
  3. It may be possible to reduce or eliminate interference from other signalsBonne réponse
  4. Accidental out-of-band operation can be prevented

Explication

CW is copied by beating the signal against a BFO, and switching to the opposite sideband mirrors the receiver passband about the tuned frequency. An interfering signal that happened to fall inside the passband on one sideband often falls outside it on the other, while the wanted signal is retuned to the same audio pitch.
