The driver's arm is held straight upward, with no horizontal segment extending from the shoulder, so the gesture warns that the vehicle is slowing or stopping. A leftward change is shown by an arm extended sideways; a right turn uses the right arm sideways or the left arm sideways with the forearm bent upward. Continuing straight does not require either turn gesture.
