Question 105

Which features would you expect to find in a wind-pollinated flower? Select all that apply.

  1. Small dull petals, or no petals at allBonne réponse
  2. Broad, brightly coloured petals
  3. Nectaries producing plenty of nectar
  4. Anthers that hang outside the flowerBonne réponse
  5. Large feathery stigmasBonne réponse

Explication

A flower pollinated by moving air has nobody to advertise to, so it spends nothing on display and instead hangs its pollen-producing parts out in the airflow and spreads a wide net to catch the grains that drift by. Colour and a sugary reward are investments in attracting animals, so they are exactly what such a flower does without.
