Question 107

How does cross-pollination differ from self-pollination?

  1. Cross-pollination moves pollen between two plants of the same speciesBonne réponse
  2. Cross-pollination moves pollen between plants of different species
  3. Cross-pollination happens inside one flower, self-pollination between flowers
  4. Cross-pollination is done by wind and self-pollination by insects

Explication

The word cross points to two separate individuals, but those individuals still have to be the same kind of plant for the pollen to be of any use when it lands. Reading it as a transfer between different kinds is the usual slip, and pollen from an unrelated species cannot fertilise the ovules of the flower it settles on.
