Question 24

Which statements about why a leaf looks green are true? Select all that apply.

  1. Green light is mostly reflected from the leafBonne réponse
  2. Green light is the colour chlorophyll absorbs best
  3. Red and blue light are absorbed and used for photosynthesisBonne réponse
  4. Every colour of light is absorbed equally by chlorophyll

Explication

We see the colours a surface sends back to our eyes, so a leaf looking green tells us that green is the part of the light chlorophyll does least with. The colours that pigment takes in strongly are the ones that power photosynthesis, and a leaf that absorbed every colour equally would look black rather than green.
