What technique shows that a square wave is made up of a sine wave and its odd harmonics?

Fourier analysis decomposes any periodic waveform into a sum of sine waves at the fundamental frequency and its harmonics; applied to a square wave it yields the fundamental plus only the odd harmonics, with amplitudes falling as 1/n. Vector, numerical and differential analysis are general mathematical tools that produce no such frequency decomposition.
