How is long distance radio communication usually affected by the charged particles that reach Earth from solar coronal holes?

Coronal holes are regions of open magnetic field from which high-speed solar wind escapes, and when that stream reaches Earth it disturbs the geomagnetic field, raising auroral absorption and depleting the F region. The result is degraded HF, particularly on high-latitude and polar paths.
