What circuit is used to select one of the sidebands from a balanced modulator?

A balanced modulator suppresses the carrier but still puts out both sidebands, so a filter sharp enough to pass one and reject the other is what selects the wanted sideband. The carrier oscillator produces the signal being modulated, and IF and RF amplifiers provide gain rather than selection.
