A wall poster on gas exchange in plants tells its readers that plants breathe through their stomata. Why is calling that respiration wrong?

Respiration is a chemical reaction inside cells, not the movement of gasesՃիշտ պատասխան
Plants breathe through their roots rather than through their leaves
Respiration is simply another name for the movement of gases through the pores
Plants do not exchange gases with the air at all

The word names the reaction that releases energy from sugar inside every living cell, while the movement of gases through the stomata of a leaf is gas exchange, which merely supplies that reaction and carries its waste away. Running the two ideas together makes it look as though a plant stops respiring whenever its pores are shut, which is not so.
