Type only the standard simple-present form of check: Neither the assistants nor the librarian ___ the returns each evening.

Բացատրություն

Checks agrees with librarian, the singular noun phrase nearest the blank in the neither-nor subject. The plural form check would follow assistants instead and would therefore disregard the proximity rule.
