Which filter type has ripple in the passband and a sharp cutoff?

The Chebyshev response deliberately allows a specified amount of ripple across the passband and buys a much steeper transition into the stop band with it. A Butterworth response is ripple-free but rolls off more gradually for the same number of elements.
