Your Form N-400 filing date chooses the test

Filed before October 20, 2025: use the 2008 test. Filed on or after October 20, 2025: use the 2025 test. Age and time as a permanent resident do not change the version; they may change whether 65/20 special consideration applies.

How to determine the version without the tool

Find the filing date for your Form N-400.
Compare it with October 20, 2025.
Choose the 2008 version if it is earlier, or the 2025 version if it is the same date or later.

Use the filing date, not the interview date. If your own USCIS record conflicts with this general rule, follow USCIS guidance for your case.
