These questions ask you to match thinkers, works, instruments, and discoveries while recognising how knowledge was produced. Method is often the strongest clue: proof, comparison, gearing, or prediction points more precisely than a broad subject label.
Match the achievement to its method
Greek intellectual history includes borrowing and adaptation as well as original analysis. The alphabet adapted Phoenician signs and gave vowel sounds dedicated letters. The Hippocratic Corpus, written by multiple authors, commonly sought natural causes of illness. In mathematics, Euclid's Elements moved from definitions and postulates to proved propositions, while Diophantus's Arithmetica used numerical problems and methods that later contributed to algebra. These are different forms of organised knowledge, so do not reduce them to a single author or modern discipline.

Use a three-part identification. Name the field, identify the procedure, and state the limited result. For example, angles plus geometry indicate measurement rather than a voyage; bronze gears plus cycles indicate an astronomical mechanism rather than a power source; an Earth-centred model can predict apparent motion without implying a flat Earth. This method also protects against claims that an idea was immediately universal or identical to its modern descendant.
